law firms by practice area
what does it take to become a lawyer?

i’ll be 47 yrs old in april. i’ve been working in law firms as an assistant for about 15 yrs. — now i want a change, and i want to make alot more money. i’ve heard a few times from lawyers that i worked for that they think i’d make a good lawyer. but at my age, where would i go?

isnt it too late to study law and become a lawyer at my age? i’ll be in my early 50′s by the time i’m able to actually practice law …..

and who wants a “old” lady as a lawyer? lol — also, which areas of law would be good to go in, to make good money? i thought about criminal law but i dont know how much they make. also, i know law school costs tons of money …….

can someone advise me here? thanx

Blue eyes hello! Listen to me, you are not too old to study law exams and to become an excellent lawyer. Go for it. You will otherwise regret it. Do you realise all the knowledge you have acquired in your years so far that will stand you in very good stead against younger qualified professionals? Just think about that. Mind you, if you are just thinking of entering this profession to make lots of money, think again. You would have to be highly successful and work very long hours to do so. Also, it is usually best to go for an area you are interested in as you will find it easier to work at this and will therefore succeed more easily. To become a good lawyer, you need to be able to ‘talk yourself out of something’ and to think very quickly on your feet. I wish you luck.

All of which must be filed neatly in boxes or in cabinets.I think you should apply. Think about this position if it is right for you. You must be able to do with lawyers. … They are the worst people to avoid. They may make lots of money. But out of the 27 jobs I've had, they are the most miserable people I've ever done it around.
